How did Software 42 first get started off?
"I vividly remember the first thoughts of starting a
software company, and they were inspired by a Chinese
meal! Adam Case and myself had been to a Chinese
restaurant. On the way home, we were talking about this
and that, and I said "We ought to start a software
company" - one which sold third party software such as
Impression 2 at discount prices. Adam agreed and then we
forgot about it for about 3 months. I then started work on
my own game, and thought that it would be good to launch
it ourselves, and not through some other company who
offered terrible royalty deals. This ressurected memories
of our conversation, of three months previously and we
decided to market not only my own software, but also that
of anyone else we could. Adam wrote off to several authors
that he knew running Arch PD and we also invited our third
partner Ben Eshmade. He contacted some people who he knew
and soon we began to see some positive responses. By this
time we had also decided on who would do what within the
company - Adam is in charge of finance, I am the software
development manager since I can program, and Ben is our
advertising/DTP expert. Things began to evolve, and we had
